Biography

Ronaldo Bastos Ribeiro, known as Ronaldo Bastos, was born on January 21, 1948, in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. As a composer and record producer, he began his career after meeting Milton Nascimento, with whom he composed several classic songs including "Cais", "Cravo e Canela", and "Fé Cega Faca Amolada". In the late 1960s, Bastos co-founded the Clube da Esquina movement alongside Milton Nascimento, Fernando Brant, and Márcio Borges. The group's self-titled album Clube da Esquina (1972) is considered one of Brazil’s greatest musical works. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Bastos produced albums for notable artists such as Milton Nascimento, Gonzaguinha, and Beto Guedes. He also collaborated with Tom Jobim on the soundtrack for the miniseries O Tempo e o Vento (1985) and released his own album Cais (1989). In the 1990s, he founded Dubas Música, a long-standing independent label that revealed important names in Brazilian music.
