Biography

María Dolores Amaya Vega, known professionally as Remedios Amaya, was born on May 1, 1962, in Sevilla, Spain, and is a Spanish flamenco singer and dancer. Amaya's musical journey began at an early age, showcasing her talent as both a singer and dancer. By eleven years old, she appeared on Spanish television in the documentary series Rito y Geografía del Cante. Her professional debut came at fourteen with a performance in Sevilla. Amaya gained prominence in the late 1970s and early 1980s with her flamenco rock style. In 1983, she made history as the first female Roma representative to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest with her song "Quién maneja mi barca". She released several albums, such as Me Voy Contigo (1997), Gitana Soy (2000), and Sonsonete (2002).
