Biography

Radmilla A. Cody, born in 1975 into the Tłʼááshchíʼí clan of the Navajo Nation, is a Navajo singer, model, and activist. Raised by her grandmother in rural Navajo territory, she developed her early singing skills while tending sheep and was influenced by both nature and local Christian choirs. Cody gained recognition when she won the Miss Navajo title in 1997, a role requiring extensive knowledge of Navajo traditions and fluency in the Navajo language. She launched her music career with the debut album Within The Four Directions (2000), followed by Seed Of Life - Traditional Songs Of The Navajo (2001), Spirit Of A Woman (2005), and Precious Friends ~Songs for Children~ (2006). Her album Shi Keyah / Songs for the People (2011) was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Regional Roots Album in 2012, making her the 1st Native American singer nominated in that category. Drawing from her personal experiences, including surviving domestic violence, Cody is also a dedicated advocate against domestic abuse.
