Biography

Brian Montgomery Slawson, born on August 2, 1956, in Plattsburgh, New York, was an American percussionist who began his musical journey at age seven playing snare drum in a local fife and drum corps. He attended the Hartt School and Juilliard School before signing his first recording contract with CBS Masterworks. Slawson's breakthrough came with the 1985 release of Bach on Wood, which was Grammy-nominated. Throughout his career, he released several notable albums including Distant Drums (1988), Bach Beat (1991), and Boomer (1999). Slawson served as Principal Timpanist of the Brevard Symphony Orchestra and Professor of Percussion at Eastern Florida State College. He was a published author for Alfred Music Publishing and appeared in various television shows including The Tonight Show.
