Biography

Quebec Redneck Bluegrass Project, a Canadian folk‑rock and bluegrass ensemble from Quebec, was formed in 2006 in Kunming, China, by Charles Hudon, Nicolas Laflamme, Didier Dessureault and Jean‑Philippe Tremblay, all natives of Saguenay‑Lac‑Saint‑Jean. Their debut album, Sweet Mama Yeah! (2010), recorded in the band’s kitchen, entered the Radio‑Canada Bande à part Top 40 and launched a Southeast Asian tour. In 2011 the group issued 3000, Boulevard de Mess, followed by Scandales & Bonne Humeur in 2014, the first album recorded in a professional studio. 2016 saw the release of Royale Réguine, which won the 2017 GAMIQ award for folk‑bluegrass album of the year and the public prize. After a 2017 sabbatical, the band returned with a 2018 Resurrectour and performed at Paléo Festival in 2019. Their 2020 album J’ai bu earned the 2021 GAMIQ award for folk album of the year as the group continued to tour extensively across Quebec, China, and Europe.
