Biography

Peter Himmelman is an American singer-songwriter and composer born on November 23, 1959, in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. He began his career with the indie rock band Sussman Lawrence, recording the albums Hail to the Modern Hero (1979) and Pop City (1984). In 1985, Himmelman signed with Island Records after the music video for "Eleventh Confession" appeared on MTV. He released his debut solo album, This Father's Day, in 1986. His 1991 recording From Strength to Strength included the song "The Woman with the Strength of 10,000 Men". Himmelman received an Emmy Award nomination in 2002 for the song "Best Kind of Answer", featured in the series Judging Amy. He composed scores for Judging Amy and the first four seasons of Bones. His 2007 album My Green Kite received a Grammy Award nomination. Himmelman released the studio album At the Emergence of Stars in 2024.
