Biography

Primitive Radio Gods, an American alternative rock group formed in Southern California, originated from the earlier band The I‑Rails, where frontman Chris O'Connor handled vocals and bass guitar. After the split of The I‑Rails in 1990, Chris O'Connor continued developing material that would later become the foundation of Primitive Radio Gods. The band’s breakthrough came with the 1996 single "Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth with Money in My Hand", which reached Number 1 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. Their debut album, Rocket, was released on 6 August 1996 under Columbia London‑Sire, followed by other albums such as 2016's Manmade Sun. Throughout their career, the group maintained a consistent presence in the U.S. alternative scene, touring with other indie acts.
