Phyllis Dillon, born on December 27, 1944, in Linstead, St. Catherine, Jamaica, was a Jamaican singer known for her contributions to rocksteady and reggae music. Influenced by American singers, Phyllis Dillon began singing in talent contests before being discovered by Duke Reid's session guitarist Lynn Taitt. Her first recording, "Donât Stay Away", released in 1967 for Duke Reidâs Treasure Isle label, marked the start of her career. Throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s, Phyllis Dillon recorded notable songs, including "Perfidia" and duets with Alton Ellis. She released her debut album One Life to Live in 1972. After a hiatus from recording, Phyllis Dillon returned to performing in the 1990s and toured internationally. She passed away on April 15, 2004, in Long Island, New York, after battling cancer for two years.
