Pharaoh's Daughter, a world music band from New York City, was formed in 1995 by Basya Schechter while she attended Barnard College. Notable members have included Basya Schechter on lead vocals, guitar, oud, saz, and percussion; Daphna Mor on recorders, zurna, ney, melodica, and vocals; and Meg Okura on violin. Their sound blended American folk, Jewish klezmer, avant-garde, new-age, Renaissance, electronic, and Middle Eastern music. The group debuted independently with Daddy's Pockets in 1999 and subsequently signed to Knitting Factory Records, which released their second album, Out of the Reeds, in 2000. In 2007, they released Haran under OY Records. The band's 2014 album Dumiyah, produced by Jamshied Sharifi, notably featured contributions from Steven Bernstein, Shir Yaakov Feit, Adam Levy, Mauro Refosco, and Marcus Rojas.
