Biography

Franz Brei (born September 7, 1968 in Bludenz, Vorarlberg) is a singer from Austria. The Roman Catholic priest has dedicated himself to religious folk music. The idea for this came about through contact with the folk musician Amalia Pfundner. Together with her and the folk music group Die Raabtal-Dirndln and the Unterlamm church choir, Franz Brei recorded the album Himmlische Klänge (Heavenly Sounds) in 2009. The album climbs to number 17 in the Austrian charts. In the same year, he took part in the Grand Prix of Folk Music and reached third place, followed by another album, Lebenslieder, at the end of 2009. The album climbs to number one in Austria and goes platinum. The third studio album Glaube, Hoffnung und Liebe (Faith, Hope and Love) also made it into the top 10 of the Austrian charts at number 4 in 2010. The longplayer achieves gold status. Franz Brei subsequently released further successful albums. The longplayers Jedes Ende ist ein neuer Anfang (2015, No. 7 in Austria) and Heilige Nacht (2018, No. 3) become chart successes. In 2023, the compilation Goldene Lebenslieder: Das Beste.
