The Fischer choirs were founded in Stuttgart in 1946 by Gotthilf Fischer, who was born in Plochingen on February 11, 1928. After the war, Gotthilf Fischer began with a small choral society, which over the years developed into a choral association with over 1,500 singers at times. The Fischer choirs specialize in folk songs, classical choral works and festive music. From the 1960s onwards, they appeared regularly on German television shows and reached an audience of millions. They became particularly well known through the New Year's Eve and New Year's Day broadcasts on ZDF, in which they performed great choral works. International appearances have taken the Fischer choirs to the USA, Japan and the Soviet Union, among other places. Famous albums include Die gröÃten Erfolge (1972) and Festliche Chormusik (1975). Further successful releases followed until the 1990s. Gotthilf Fischer dies on December 11, 2020 in Weinstadt-Endersbach. Even after his death, the Fischer Choirs remain a household name in German music history.
