Alexander "Papa" Lightfoot, born on March 2, 1924, in Natchez, Mississippi, was an American blues singer and harmonica player. He began his career recording sessions between 1949 and 1955 for labels such as Peacock Records (1949), Sultan Records (1950), Aladdin Records (1952), Imperial Records (1954) and Savoy Records (1955). After a hiatus, Lightfoot's work gained renewed interest in the 1960s. In 1969, producer Steve LaVere visited Lightfoot in Natchez, leading to the release of Natchez Trace (1969) on Vault Records. Lightfoot performed at the Ann Arbor Blues Festival in 1970. His comeback was cut short by his death on November 28, 1971. He was posthumously honored with a memorial marker on the Mississippi Blues Trail in 2009.
