Biography

Rednex was founded in 1994 by three Swedish producers. The band is known for its unique musical style: they mix Eurodance with elements of American country music. This combination, strange at first glance, led to the worldwide hit "Cotton Eye Joe" in 1995: A dance cover version of a traditional country-folk song. The square dance, spiced up with electronic beats, was followed by two more hits, "Old Pop in an Oak" (1995) and "Wish You Were Here" (1995). All three songs contribute to the success of the album Sex & Violins (1995). The band frequently changes its line-up and only returns in 2000 with "The Spirit of the Hawk", which becomes a hit in Germany. In the years that followed, Rednex repeatedly became embroiled in legal difficulties over the rights to their name - they remained a band that was appreciated above all for their live qualities. nevertheless, a single "Devil's On The Loose" was released in 2010, followed by the EP Drinking & Pub Songs, Oktoberfest & Party Songs 1 (2012).
