Biography

Formed in London in 1988, The Grid comprises keyboardist Dave Ball, best known for his work with Soft Cell, and Richard Norris (vocals, bass), supported by guest musicians and vocalists. After working together on Psychic TV, Ball and Norris created the M.E.S.H. project, which recorded the track "Meet Every Situation Head On", before changing its name. The Grid's first hit in 1990, "Flotation", from the album Electric Head, reached No. 60. Moving from EastWest to Virgin, the duo recorded the album 456 (1992), from which four hits were taken, including "Figure of 8" (#50) and "Crystal Clear" (#27). The Grid's biggest success came in 1994 with the techno/bluegrass track "Swamp Thing", for the Deconstruction label. It was an international success, reaching #3 in the UK and Australia, where it was certified silver and platinum respectively. The track is taken from the Evolver album, which also includes "Texas Cowboys" (#21) and "Rollercoaster " (#19).
