Biography
P16.D4 were a West German noise ensemble from Mainz active between 1980 and 1988. The group was established by the musician Joachim Stender as a solo project under the name Permutative Distorsion. They achieved professional recognition for a musical style characterized by analog manipulation, tape cut-ups, and the recycling of existing materials. In early 1980, Ralf Wehowsky and Joachim Pense joined the ensemble. Their recording career began with the extended play Alltag (1980) and the debut studio recording Inweglos (1980). After the core lineup split in 1981, Wehowsky and Pense continued the project as P16.D4 with the addition of Stefan Schmidt. Their discography includes the studio recordings Wer Nicht Arbeiten Will Soll Auch Nicht Essen! (1981), V.R.N.L. (1981), and Kühe in 1/2 Trauer (1984). They released the studio recordings Distruct (1984) and Nichts Niemand Nirgends Nie! (1986). The ensemble became inactive in 1988.
