Otokogumi, a Japanese male idol rock band, was formed in 1985 under the management of Johnny & Associates. The group consisted of members Shouji Narita, Kazuya Takahashi, Kenichi Okamoto, and Koyo Maeda, who initially joined the agency as trainees in 1984. In early 1988, they made their first stage performances alongside other groups under the collective name "Gosanke" at Nippon Budokan. Their major debut came later that year with the single "Daybreak", released under BMG Victor, which topped the charts during its first week and ranked fourth in the 1988 yearly single rankings. They received the "Best Newcomer" award at the 30th Japan Record Awards on December 31, 1988. They released "Aki"(1988) and "TIME ZONE" (1989) and in 1991, with the release of their sixth single "Angel", Otokogumi began composing and writing their own songs. The group went on hiatus in 1993 following the departure of Takahashi, Narita, and Maeda from the agency, leaving only Jirou Moriya until 2021. In 2022, Otokogumi announced a resumption of their music activities for one year, disbanded with their final live tour Otokogumi THE LAST LIVE in 2023.
