Biography

Koichi Domoto, born January 1, 1979, in Ashiya, Hyogo Prefecture, is a Japanese idol, singer-songwriter, actor, and one-half of the popular duo KinKi Kids. His career began unexpectedly when his sister sent his resume to Johnny’s Entertainment. After watching a Hikaru GENJI concert at age 12, he decided to join the agency. Alongside Tsuyoshi Domoto, whom he met at his first audition, Koichi commuted between Osaka and Tokyo for training before moving to Tokyo full-time. He gained early experience as a backup dancer for Hikaru GENJI and SMAP before KinKi Kids officially debuted in 1993. While actively working with KinKi Kids, Koichi also launched a successful solo career. In 1999, he starred in the stage production MASK, and from 2000 onward, he headlined the long-running musical series SHOCK, becoming a major figure in Japanese musical theater. In 2006, he debuted as a solo artist with the double A-side single "Deep in your heart/+MILLION but -LOVE", with Deep in your heart serving as the theme song for the anime Jyu-Oh-Sei. His single debuted at No. 1 on the Oricon charts. In 2024, Koichi opened a solo fan club under Sony Music Solutions, marking a new phase following the changes in KinKi Kids' management. One of his solo releases is "Ayakashi"(2009).
