Biography

NYOIL (born Kim Sharpton; April 29, 1971) is an American political and alternative hip-hop rapper from Staten Island, New York City. NYOIL began rapping at age twelve and formed the duo The U.M.C.’s (Undisputed Masters of Charisma) with Haas G in 1988. Performing as Kool Kim, he released the album Fruits of Nature in 1991, which reached number 36 on the Billboard charts. The album featured the singles “Blue Cheese” and “One to Grow On”, which reached Number 1 and number 2 on the Billboard Hot Rap Singles chart. After the group’s second album, Unleashed, NYOIL adopted his current stage name for solo projects. In 2006, NYOIL released the song “Y’All Should All Get Lynched”, which generated media coverage for its controversial video. NYOIL released the solo debut album HoodTREASON in 2007, followed by 9 Wonders in 2008.
