Biography

Northside, an English alternative rock band from Blackley and Moston in north Manchester, England, was formed in 1989 by Warren "Dermo" Dermody on vocals/lyrics and Cliff Ogier on bass. They were later joined by Michael Upton on guitar and Paul Walsh on drums. The band became part of the 1990s Madchester / baggy / indie - rave scene, releasing their debut single "Shall We Take a Trip" in May 1990. Despite being banned by the BBC for its drug references, it reached Number 50 on the UK Singles Chart. Their next release, "My Rising Star", peaked at Number 32 and stayed on the chart for seven weeks. In June 1991, Northside released their only album Chicken Rhythms on Factory Records, which reached Number 19 in the UK. The album was produced by Ian Broudie. Their single "Take 5" from this album peaked at Number 40 in the UK and reached Number 5 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. In late 2013, Northside announced a reunion with all four original members and toured England in April and May 2014. Former guitarist between 1990 to 1996, Timmy Walsh died on August 19, 2019.
