Biography

A product of the late 1980s/early 1990s British rock scene that was becoming increasingly intertwined with rave culture, Jesus Jones melded jangly hooks with dancey rhythms to become firm favourites of the indie crowd. Debut album Liquidizer (1989) introduced the world to the band's signature bouncy, guitar pop and their single Info Freako became strongly championed by Radio 1 DJ Bruno Brookes. It led to second album Doubt (1990) topping the UK charts and producing a rush of excitement in America where Right Here Right Now reached Number 2 and became the band's defining anthem. International Bright Young Thing and Real, Real, Real also became big UK hits and the lads were named Best Newcomers at the MTV Awards in 1991 and played a sell-out tour of the US. Follow-up albums Perverse (1993) and Already (1997) failed to recapture the success, but they received a boost when a cover version of Right Here, Right Now was used in an advertising campaign for the 2011 Rugby World Cup. Still occasionally performing together, keyboard player Iain Baker has gone on to become a presenter on London radio station XFM.
