Biography
Blossoms are an alternative rock band formed in Manchester, England in 2013. Blossoms frontman Tom Ogden started writing songs when he was a teenager before teaming up with school friends Charlie Salt, Josh Dewhurst, Joe Donovan, and Myles Kellock in 2013, and they adopted the name Blossoms from a local pub. The Lancashire lads had ambition and hunger from the off and set about finding their own style of working class, stadium-filling indie rock by rehearsing on the site of Salt's grandfather's scaffolding business. Debut EP Bloom (2014) and a string of boisterous local gigs led to a deal with Virgin EMI. The bandâs momentum grew as they progressed from small pubs to low-level festival slots to support spots with Courteeners and The Libertines and a triumphant sold-out gig at the O2 Ritz Manchester in front of 2,000 people. They morphed psychedelic electronics, pop melodies and jangly guitar riffs together on three more EPsâBlown Rose (2015), Charlemagne (2015), and At Most a Kiss (2016)âand were also named on the BBC Music Sound Of list before their self-titled debut albumâproduced by The Coral's James Skellyâwent on to top the UK charts in August 2016. Local legends like Johnny Marr, Ian Brown, and Tim Burgess also championed their cause and their singles such as âI Can't Stand Itâ became crowd-pleasing calling cards. They returned in 2018, full of indie pop anthems on second album Cool Like You before releasing the follow-up Foolish Loving Spaces in 2020. Their next release was the Blossoms in Isolation album from October 2020 which contained cover versions and re-workings of their own songs recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns. Blossoms returned in April 2022 with the album Ribbon Around the Bomb, which contained the singles âCare Forâ, âRibbon Around the Bombâ, âOde to NYCâ, and âThe Sulking Poetâ. The album, like the previous three, was co-produced by The Coralâs James Skelly. The band released their fifth album, Gary, in 2024. The LP gave Blossoms their fourth UK number-one.
