Biography
Born in Phoenix, Arizona, on November 20, 1975, country singer Dierks Bentley built his musical education by listening to country records. At the age of nineteen, he moved to the capital of the genre, Nashville, to establish himself as an artist. He worked for the CNN television network by day and recorded demos or frequented the city's clubs by night. Noticed by an agent from the Capitol Nashville label, who offered him an artist's contract, he recorded his first homonymous album in 2003. It proved a success, going platinum for its sales, as did the follow-up Modern Day Drifter (2005). Following the release of Long Trip Alone (2006), a first compilation of his early hits was released in 2008 under the title Greatest Hits: Every Mile a Memory, complete with tracks from his concerts, chosen by his fans. Dierks Bentley continues to build on this success with the release of Feel That Fire (2009), before devoting the following album Up on the Ridge (2010) to the bluegrass style. In 2012, the album Home welcomed the participation of singer Karen Fairchild and fiddler Sam Bush. On the next, Riser (2014), which reached number one on the country charts (#6 on the Billboard album chart), Kacey Musgraves and Chris Stapleton take part in duets. This plebiscite is reinforced by the performance of Black (2016), which dominates country album sales and reaches #2 on the Billboard 200, featuring two duets with Maren Morris and Elle King and the participation of trombonist Trombone Shorty on one track. His ninth album, The Mountain, follows in 2018 with appearances by the Brothers Osborne and Brandi Carlile. Bentley, who also leads the parody band Hot Country Knights with his live musicians, signs "Gone" in 2020, his most popular single in the charts since 2003, followed by "Beers on Me" with Hardy and Breland. His tenth album, Gravel & Gold, was released in 2023, with the tracks "Gold" and "Something Real". He then collaborates with Billy Strings on "High Note" and pays tribute to Tom Petty with a cover of "American Girl" for the Petty Country compilation (2024). 2025 saw the release of the first single from the Broken Branches album, "She Hates Me", followed by "Cold Beer Can" and "Well Well Whiskey". Nominated for thirteen Grammy Awards, Dierks Bentley has yet to win an award, but has won three Country Music Association Awards.
