Biography

The producer and DJ known as MK was born Mark Kinchen on August 3, 1972. A Detroit native, he began his career in the late 80s via a series of appearances on Kevin Sanderson’s KMS label and then relocated to Brooklyn in 1991. There, he quickly made a name for himself in the city's booming club circuit and released his debut single “Burning” through his own Area 10 Records. His first full-length, Surrender, arrived in 1993 and featured the worldwide Number 1 club hits “Always” and “Love Changes,” featuring vocalist Alana Simon. In the early aughts, MK relocated to Los Angeles and worked with some of the most renowned American artists in the urban genre, such as Will Smith, Pitbull, and Beyoncé. Following the release of a series of compilations between 2011 and 2013, MK remained active in the electronic music scene by continuously remixing the biggest stars in mainstream pop and dropping a handful of singles of his own, including the UK Number 1 hit “17,” featuring singer Carla Monroe, and 2021’s “Lies,” which landed at Number 90 on the UK Official Singles Chart.
