Nachtmystium was formed in the United States by Blake Judd, who served as lead vocalist and guitarist. The group first appeared with the EP Nachtmystium in 2003, followed by the albums Reign of the Malicious (2002), Demise (2004), and Instinct: Decay (2006), establishing a foundation in black metal. In 2008 the band released Assassins: Black Meddle, Part I, expanding their reach, and this direction continued with Addicts: Black Meddle, Part II in 2010. The 2012 album Silencing Machine and the 2014 release The World We Left Behind marked a further shift toward psychedelic and experimental sounds, attracting mixed to positive critical reception. After a hiatus, the project resumed activity with the album Resilient in 2018. In 2020 the project was disbanded, but in 2024 Nachtmystium returned with the single âPredator Phoenixâ and the album Blight Privilege, released through Prophecy Productions.
