Biography

Originally from the Polish metal scene, Behemoth has built up an international reputation with the help of black and death metal albums such as Grom (1996) and Demigod (2004). This success owes much to the personality of singer Nergal, the only surviving member since the band's inception in 1991. In 2009, the album Evangelion reached number one in Poland and appeared in the international sales charts, notably in the USA. The band was then slowed down by leukemia affecting its singer between 2010 and 2012, before returning with The Satanist (2014), which saw its status rise further (#34 in the US and charted for the first time in the UK). The tour that followed resulted in a live album and the film Messe Noire, preceding by a few months the release of the ninth album I Love You at Your Darkest (2018). Following support tours for Slayer and Slipknot, Behemoth celebrate their 30th anniversary with a twelfth studio album, Opvs Contra Natvram (2022), followed by The Shit ov God in 2025.
