Mountain Brothers, an American hip hop group from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, formed in 1994 after members Scott "CHOPS" Jung, Christopher Wang, and Steve Wei met at Pennsylvania State University. They gained attention with early releases such as "Paperchase" and the EP EP in 1996. That year, they became the first Chinese-American rap group to sign with a major label, Ruffhouse Records. Their debut album, Self: Volume 1, released in 1998, is regarded as an independent hip-hop classic. Notable songs from this period include "Galaxies (The Next Level)" and "Thoroughbred". The group disbanded in 2003 after releasing Triple Crown. Following the group's dissolution, CHOPS pursued a solo career, collaborating with artists such as Kanye West and Chamillionaire.
