Biography
The Moody Boys is Tony Thorpe's UK-based record production and remix outfit. Thorpe began his career in the late 1980s and released the single âAcid Rappinââ (1988) on City Beat which incorporated elements of techno, acid house, and African rhythms. In 1991, the group released âFunky Zuluâ which was considered a house classic. The Moody Boys were closely linked to the KLF and provided remixes for singles such as âWhat Time Is Love?â and âLast Train to Trancentralâ. Thorpe also produced the track âFirst National Rapperâ (1988) which was co-produced by the KLF under the name The JAMs. In 1994, the group released the album Product of the Environment which received 4 stars from AllMusic. Its remixed counterpart Recycled for the Environment (1994) also received 4 stars and featured contributions from remixers including Andrew Weatherall and Dave Hedger. Throughout the early 1990s, the Moody Boys released various singles and EPs including âJourney into Dublandâ (1990) and âDestination Africaâ (1994).
