Biography

Formed by two female singers and guitarists, the band Momma was born in Calabasas, California, in 2015. High school buddies, Allegra Weingarten and Etta Friedman share a passion for '90s alternative rock and look to Liz Phair as their role model. Appearing in January 2016, their debut EP, Thanks Come Again, was recorded and produced with Sebastian Jones and Aron Kobayashi-Ritch, who joined the band. Having become the drummer by necessity, Allegra Weingarten willingly cedes her place to Robert Tilden, who produces the album Interloper (2018). Multiple festival appearances and an opening slot for Gang of Four broadened the audience for Momma, who returned to the studio for their second album, Two of Me (2020), released on the independent label Danger Collective Records. It was well received by the critics, while the two musicians finished their studies. In 2021, Momma turned professional and signed with the Polyvinyl label, releasing Household Name (2022). Over the next two years, Momma played an increasing number of support gigs with bands and artists such as Snail Mail, Surf Curse, Death Cab for Cutie, Alex G, Girl in Red, St. Vincent and Beabadoobee, before hiring drummer Preston Fulks for the album Welcome to My Blue Sky (2025), which included the alternative hit "I Want You (Fever)".
