US alternative rock singer-songwriter Margaret Glaspy was born in Sacramento, California on 22 January 1989 and grew up in Red Bluff, California, where she began focusing her attention on music from a young age. After picking up the guitar and trombone in high school, she moved onto the guitar aged 16âand has never looked back. After a brief stint at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, her professional career began in 2012 with the release of her debut EP Homeschool but she found her voice on the US alternative rock scene four years later with the grungey full-length, Emotions and Math. She set aside her guitar and let her voice do the talking over a backdrop of piano and modern electronic production for her second full-length, Devotionâher second LP for ATO Recordsâwhich followed in 2020. 2023 saw the release of the New York-based singer-songwriter's third studio album, Echo the Diamond, also released on ATO. Margaret Glaspy followed the album with the stripped-back EP The Sun Doesnât Think in 2024, writing its songs while touring and recording them largely with acoustic guitar. In 2025, she released The Golden Heart Protector, a collection of covers featuring Norah Jones, James Bay, Madison Cunningham, Andrew Bird, Julian Lage, and Alam Khan. She then announced her fourth studio album, I Am Both, produced by Joe Henry at Reservoir Studios in New York. Preceded by the singles âMichiganâ and âThat Rose,â the album was released through ATO Records on August 7, 2026.
