Mister Chivo is a Mexican gruperoâcumbia band formed in 1974 in Ciudad Miguel Alemán, Tamaulipas, by a group of high school classmates who initially performed at school festivals. The lineup includes Juan Carlos Pérez on lead vocals, Luis Alberto Barrera as guitarist and musical director, Raymundo Barrera on drums, Cruz Ãngel Herrera on bass, VÃctor Herrera on percussion, and Ãngel Treviño on keyboards. In 1980 they established their own label, Discos Korin, and scored their first major hit with âPlaya Azul,â which also became grupero Mexicoâs first televised music video. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s they recorded a string of beloved tracks such as âLa Cumbita,â âLucerito de Plata,â âCorazón de Madera,â and their playful monster-themed hits like âSoy Drácula,â âEl Hombre Lobo,â and âFrankestein.â By the midâ1980s, after signing with Discos DLV, they released classics including âRon y Coca Cola,â âChévere,â and âTongoneaito,â while also exploring romantic balladry with songs like âPoco a Poco Me Enamoré de Ti.â In the early 1990s they transitioned to Sony Discos and later to DISA, delivering eccentric fan favorites like âMi Abuelito,â âBeatriz,â and âLupita.â Into the 2000s, albums such as El Gran Cuarto (1994), De la Tierra al Cielo (2000), and Sin Previo Aviso (2002) highlighted their longevity and willingness to experiment, including festive medleys and seasonal themes. In subsequent years Mister Chivo has continued to record and perform with the same joyful energy that made them icons: they released new singles like âQuen Na Quereâ (2023), âPerdón Cariño MÃoâ (2024), and âSe Rompió Un Corazónâ (2025), and "Que Haces Por Aca?" (2025), which reached number 45 on the Billboard Latin Airplay chart.
