Misfits of Science were a New Zealand hip-hop duo formed in 2000, consisting of South African-born Yudhi Moodley and Kiwi native Stephen McQuinn. The group met at a clothing store in Auckland and spent the following years honing their production and writing skills. Their breakthrough came with the release of their debut single "Fools Love" in 2004, which was awarded a recording grant by NZ On Air and became one of New Zealand's most successful charting singles, spending four consecutive weeks at Number 1 and achieving multi-platinum status. The group signed to indie record label Hoof with a distribution deal under Sony BMG. Their debut album, MOS Presents, was released in November 2004 and achieved gold status. Misfits of Science made a brief return in 2018 with the singles "The Hype" and "Funny Money", but separated later that year.
