Biography

Michael Kenneth James Dawes, born on July 21, 1989, in England, is a guitarist known for his fingerstyle technique. He began playing keyboards before switching to electric guitar at age 12 and later to steel-string acoustic guitar in 2008. Dawes released his first EP, Reflections, independently in January 2009. In 2012, he signed with CandyRat Records and released his first studio album, What Just Happened?, in April 2013. His cover of "Somebody That I Used to Know" by Gotye gained widespread acclaim, including praise from Gotye himself. Dawes' subsequent albums include ERA (September 2017) and Shows and Distancing: Live in the USA (October 2020). He was named Best Acoustic Guitarist by MusicRadar and Total Guitar in both 2017 and 2018.
