Michael George Haynes, known professionally as Michael Prophet, was born on March 3, 1957, in Kingston, Jamaica. He began his music career singing on local sound systems during the late 1970s and released his first singles "The Woman I Love", "Super Star" and "True Born African" in 1978. Prophet's breakthrough came with the remake of The Heptones' "Fight It To The Top", which led to his debut album Serious Reasoning in 1980. Throughout the 1980s, he collaborated with producers like Henry âJunjoâ Lawes and released notable albums such as Righteous Are The Conqueror. Prophet moved to London in the mid-1980s, achieving hits like "Loving You" and "Your Love". He continued performing live until his final shows in September and October 2017. He died from a cardiac arrest on December 16, 2017, aged 60.
