AyÅe Melike DemiraÄ (born June 3, 1956) is a Turkish singer and actress from Istanbul. The daughter of singer Rüçhan Ãamay and director Turgut DemiraÄ, she is recognized for performing political songs. DemiraÄ began her acting career in 1971 in the film Ãç Kızgın Cengaver. In 1974, she starred in Yılmaz Güneyâs film ArkadaÅ and performed the song âArkadaÅâ, written by Güney and composed by Åanar Yurdatapan. DemiraÄâs discography featured the singles âHadi Canım Sen Deâ (1975) and âAÄlamak Ayıp DeÄilâ (1976). In 1978, she portrayed Berivan in the film Sürü, earning the Best Actress Award from the Turkish Film Critics Association (SÄ°YAD) in 1979. Although the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival was cancelled in 1980 due to a military coup, she received the Best Actress Award for the role in 2011. Following the 1980 coup, DemiraÄ lost her Turkish citizenship and lived as an expatriate.
