Biography

Legendary Turkish singer Yavuz Bingöl was born on October 7, 1964, in the city of Istanbul. He was raised by his father, a literature teacher, and his mother, the famous folk poet Şahsenem Akkaş. Despite enrolling at the Ankara State Conservatory in 1977, he was forced to drop out of his academic pursuit in order to support his family following his parent's divorce. It wasn't until 1983 that he would finally return to music, performing at weddings and venues. In 1986, he formed the group Umuda Ezgi with musician Nihat Aydın, with whom he focused on protest music and developed a following. After seven active years with the group, Yavuz Bingöl embarked on a solo career in 1995, releasing his debut solo album Sen Türkülerini Söyle. This was followed by several notable albums including Baharım Sensin (1997), Gülen Az (1998), Belki Yine Gelirsin (2002), Ateş (2012), and İhsan (2018). Beyond his music, Yavuz Bingöl also had a high-profile career as an actor, beginning with his role in the 1998 movie Cumhuriyet. He was also famous for his performance in the film Üç Maymun, which earned him a nomination for Best Male Actor at the 61st Cannes Film Festival. In 2022, Yavuz Bingöl released the single "Yaren," which quickly garnered a large number of streams on various digital platforms, serving as a testament to his enduring influence in Turkish music.
