Biography

Opera tenor Marc Hervieux was born in Montreal, Canada on June 19, 1969. Over the course of his career, his fame has spread from his Canadian homeland to Europe, the United States and beyond. While best known for his operatic performances and recordings, he has dabbled in other genres including pop and jazz vocal standards, Christmas, and musicals. He developed an interest in opera through watching television programs hosted by singer/actor Yoland Guérard. Spurred on by his new interest, he began to sing in his brother's amateur theater troupe. He studied graphic communication in college but left school to pursue music. He formed the group Le gang des Chums and played with them for a short time before was encouraged to audition for the Nouvelle Compagnie Théâtrale in Montreal. Performing arias from Mozart’s Don Giovanni, he found his tenor voice and then chose to study music at the Montreal Conservatory of Music. He graduated and then continued his training at the Opéra de Montréal before starting a professional career. After winning numerous awards and critical praise, Marc Hervieux released his debut album, Après Nous (2009), which veered away from a strictly classical repertoire and included covers of pop songs as well. The album was certified gold record and led to a series of well-received albums including Le Premier Noël (2009), Un Air d'Hiver (2011), Mes Plaisirs ... and its symphonic counterpart Mes Plaisirs ... La Suite (2013), and Hervieux (2014), which consisted of covers and original compositions. In 2010, his first lyric recital Tenor Arias, recorded with the Orchester Métropolitain de Montréal directed by Yannick Nézet-Séguin, received the Félix Prize for classical vocal album. His next release, A Napoli (2011), found him covering songs from the traditional Neapolitan repertoire. Marc Hervieux then began to host his own television and radio shows and perform in musicals such as Sister Act and December. Marc Hervieux then recorded two international standard cover albums: Nostalgia (2020) and Nostalgia 2 (2021).
