Biography

Formerly a trainee mechanic at a factory in Blackpool, Alfie Boe entertained his fellow workers with arias and show tunes and was overheard one day by a customer with connections to the music industry. The chance encounter led to Boe studying at the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company in London and then the Royal College of Music, before landing the lead in Baz Lurhmann's Broadway production of 'La Bohème' winning a Tony Award for his performance in 2003. His debut album, 'Classic FM Presents Alfie Boe' reached number three in 2006 in the Classical Charts and he recorded a set of old Italian folk songs on 'La Passione' in 2007 before starring in a 'Les Misérables' tribute concert at the O2 Arena. Boe's collection of musical show tunes on 'Bring Him Home' (2010) brought his commercial breakthrough, reaching number nine in the UK. Follow-ups 'Alfie' (2011) and 'Storyteller' (2012) also made the top ten as he went on to perform at the Diamond Jubilee Concert and work with Natasha Marsh, Kimberley Walsh and Gary Barlow. He reprised his 'Les Misérables' role of Jean Valjean in 2015 for a Broadway revival at the Imperial Theatre in New York and performed two nights at Birmingham's Symphony Hall with the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra. In 2016, Boe joined up with friend and fellow singer Michael Ball for the album 'Together'. The collaboration peaked at number one in the UK Albums Chart and marked the beginning of a great partnership. They released their second album 'Together Again' in 2017, scoring them another number one on the UK Pop Albums Chart. He released his tenth solo album in 2018 titled 'As Time Goes By' followed by a return to collaborate with Michael Ball on 2019's 'Back Together' which includes covers of 'My Way' and 'The Greatest Show'. He also performed alongside Ball, Matt Lucas and Carrie Hope Fletcher in a staged concert version of 'Les Misérables'.
