Biography
Majekodunmi Fasheke, known professionally as Majek Fashek, and born in March 1963 in Benin City, Nigeria, was a singer-songwriter and guitarist. He started his musical career by joining his local church choir and learning to play the trumpet and guitar. In the early 1980s, under the stage name Rajesh Kanal, he joined Jah Stix, which became popular on NTA Benin's Music Panorama. After Jah Stix disbanded, Fashek released his debut solo album, Prisoner of Conscience, in 1987. The album featured the hit single "Send Down the Rain", Nigeria's most popular song of 1988. In 1989, he won six PMAN Music Awards including Song of the Year and Album of the Year. Fashek collaborated with international artists such as Tracy Chapman and Michael Jackson. He passed away on June 1, 2020, in New York City.
