Biography

Socrate Petteng (April 23, 1979) is a French rapper of Cameroonian descent that goes by the name Mac Tyer. Born in Aubervilliers, Île-de-France, he first jumped into the spotlight as one half of the duo Tandem with Mac Kregor, finding success in the underground hip-hop scene with releases such as Ceux Qui le Savent M'Écoutent (2001), Tandematique Modèle Vol.1 (2004), and C'est Toujours Pour Ceux qui Savent (2005). His debut mixtape, Patrimoine du Ghetto, saw the light in 2005 via Explosif Musik and Mad Muzzik and was followed by his first studio full-length Le Général in 2006. Heavily influenced by Southern rap, the album featured guest spots by Bigou, Kiki, Mac Kregor, Kery James, and Booba, and climbed to Number 28 on the French charts. Subsequent albums D'où Je Viens (2008), Hat-Trick (2010), Untouchable (2012), Banger #1 (2013), and Banger II (2014) all enjoyed moderate success in France, but it was Je Suis une Légende that finally helped him break into the mainstream, becoming his first release to crack the domestic Top 10. In the following years, Mac Tyer continued his winning streak with the Noir EP series between 2020 and 2021. The third installment of the EP trilogy included the Freeze Corleone collab “Grammy,” which peaked at Number 84 on SNEP’s Singles Chart.
