Formed in 1992 in Apodaca, Nuevo León, Mandingo is a Mexican grupero band founded by the Esparza brothersâMario, Enrique, José, and Javierâafter years of performing under the name Los Perros and receiving early support from José Guadalupe Esparza of Bronco. Their official debut came in 1992 with the album En el camino, which sold over 200,000 copies across Mexico and the U.S., establishing their presence in the regional Mexican scene. Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, Mandingo became known for romantic grupero ballads such as âNúmero equivocado,â âTe vi con él,â and âNo compro amores,â amassing millions of views online and securing a loyal fanbase across Latin America. Albums like A pasos firmes (1993), Rompe corazones (1995), Ganas de amarte (1998), and Cristal y acero (2006) cemented their reputation, while standout singles like âLlégale,â âPor amor a ti,â and âSe llamaban Broncoâ showcased their consistent emotional appeal. International tours took them to the U.S., Guatemala, Argentina, and Paraguay, further expanding their reach. Over the following years, hits like âVamos a amarlas los dosâ and the 2023 release âQue soledadâ have reaffirmed their relevance, proving Mandingoâs enduring place in the genre after more than three decades of music.
