Los Hijos del Pueblo is a Mexican tropical/cumbia group formed in Cerro Gordo, Veracruz, in 2002 by brothers Héctor Leal and Francisco Leal, with a family-based lineup that included other relatives as core members. After building regional momentum through early recordings, the group broke nationally in 2006 when the Leal brothers’ song “El Botecito” became their signature hit and led to wide TV exposure in Mexico. Their catalog soon consolidated around full-length releases such as Como Pelotita De Ping Pong (2004) and Ahhhh...Sabrosoooo (2004), followed by the peak-era albums El Botecito (2009) and Los Reyes Del Baile (2009), which kept their sound anchored in dancefloor-ready cumbia arrangements and grupero hooks. The project was later marked by major internal changes, including the death of Héctor Leal in 2011 and Francisco Leal in 2020, after which Los Hijos del Pueblo continued under the remaining members’ direction, with Pakko Leal increasingly credited as a leading creative force. In the 2010s they added titles like sonrisas y tristezas (2016) and La Bailadora (2017), then returned with new-era releases including Puras Viejas Bien Buenas (2021), “El Botecito (Chan Remix)” (2022), and the Pakko-produced album Evolución (2024). The group remained active into 2025 with session-style releases such as Live Session Monterrey Vol. 1 and Live Session Monterrey Vol. 2.
