Kentrick Patrick, known professionally as Lord Creator, was born on August 21, 1935, in San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago. He started his career as a calypso singer, recording early hits "The Cockhead" and "Evening News" with Fitz Vaughan Bryan's big band. Following the success of "Evening News", he moved to Jamaica in late 1959. In 1962, Lord Creator recorded "Independent Jamaica", which became the official song for Jamaicaâs independence from the United Kingdom on August 6, 1962. Notable hits include "Don't Stay Out Late" (1963), and "Kingston Town" (1970). His career saw a resurgence in 1989 when UB40 covered "Kingston Town". Lord Creator received Jamaicaâs Order of Distinction (Officer) in 2022. He passed away on June 30, 2023, at the age of 87.
