Liona Maria Carolynne Boyd, born on July 11, 1949 in London, England and raised in Toronto, Canada, is a classical guitarist. She received her first guitar at age 13 and studied under Andrés Segovia. Boyd graduated with honors from the University of Toronto in 1972. Boyd's debut album The Guitar was released in 1974 on Boot Records. She performed at Carnegie Hall in 1975 and toured extensively, including opening for Gordon Lightfoot. In 1989, her album Christmas Dreams appeared on the RPM Top Albums chart. Boyd has recorded with numerous artists, including Chet Atkins and David Gilmour. She has released over 26 studio albums. Notable achievements include five Instrumental Artist of the Year awards at the Juno Awards and induction into the Order of Canada in 1982 as a Member and Officer in 2021.
