Biography

The French rap artist L'Algérino was born Samir Djoghlal in 1980 in Marseille to Algerian parents. Djoghlal began rapping when he was just 11 and began to make a name for himself producing his own mixtapes and performing at local venues. During this period, he made guest appearances on a number of albums and began his association with IAM, a collective of hip-hop performers from the northern district of Marseille. His first break into the music business came when his childhood friend and fellow rapper Philippe Fragione, aka Arkhenaton, offered Djoghlal a contract with his 361 Recordz label. After releasing his debut album 'Les Derniers Seront les Premiers' in 2005, Djoghlal was picked up by Parisian label Six-0-Nine before finally signing to WEA. In 2016 Djoghlal released his seventh studio album 'Banderas' and this gave him his first top twenty album in the French charts. In 2018 he released 'International' which featured the single 'Les Menottes (Tching Tchang Tchong)', a song which eventually went on to garner 460 million hits on YouTube. The success of the single plus Djoghlal's rising popularity gave the artist his first top ten album when 'International' reached number seven in the French and Belgian charts in 2018.
