Carlos Coleman, known professionally as King Los, was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He began his rap career at age 18, focusing on themes related to the murder of his father. In 2005, Coleman signed with Bad Boy Records through Da Bloc Incorporated but left in 2008 due to legal issues before releasing an album. From 2008 to 2010, he released several mixtapes. He re-signed with Bad Boy Records in February 2012 and released the mixtape Becoming King in 2013. Following his departure from Bad Boy Records in March 2014, Los signed with RCA Records and 88 Classic. His album, God, Money, War, was released in 2015 and featured executive production by Puff Daddy. The album entered the Billboard 200 chart.
