Kim Bum-ryong, born on July 8, 1959, in Seoul, Republic of Korea, is a Korean singer-songwriter. He began his music career as a vocalist for the duo Bin Sooreh and won an award at the Yeonpo Music Festival in 1982 with his original song "Inyeon." Kim Bum-ryong made his solo debut in 1985 with the release of his first album, Kim Bum-ryong 1st Album, which included the hit single "Wind Wind Wind." This song topped the charts for five consecutive weeks on KBS2's Gayo Top Ten and earned him the Best New Male Artist award at the 1985 KBS Music Awards. In 1986, he received the Top 10 Singer Award from both MBC and KBS. Throughout his career, Kim Bum-ryong released numerous albums, including Kim Bum-ryong 2nd Album (1986), Kim Bum-ryong 3rd Album (1987), and Kim Bum-ryong 4th Album (1988). His album The World in Rainbow Colors (1989) further solidified his status as a prominent figure in Korean rock music. He also ventured into acting, appearing in films and musicals. In addition to his solo work, Kim Bum-ryong produced the debut album for the male duo Nokseuk Jidae. Despite facing legal issues in 1995 that led to a temporary ban from KBS broadcasts, he returned to television in 1999 with an appearance on MBC's Gayo Concert. His most recent album, Kim Bum-ryong 9th Album, was released in 2022. His 1st album entered Melon's Top 100 K-trot songs chart in the last week of August, 2025, at rank 79, 40 years after its release.
