Biography

Bae Cheol-soo is a South Korean radio host and a singer, best known as the longtime DJ of Bae Cheol-soo’s Music Camp on MBC FM4U since 1990. Born on August 18, 1953, in Jongno District, Seoul, he graduated from Korea Aerospace University and served in the military, being discharged as a staff sergeant in 1977. Bae's music career began in 1978 when he competed in the 1st Beach Singing Competition hosted by Tongyang Broadcasting Company as part of the group Runaway (also known as Hwaljooro). In 1979, he co-founded the legendary Korean rock band Songgolmae, where he played drums and contributed vocals. Songgolmae became one of Korea’s most influential rock bands of the 1980s, known for hits that shaped the era’s music scene. Transitioning into broadcasting, Bae found lasting success as a radio DJ, becoming a household name with his deep voice and passion for music. His show, Bae Cheol-soo’s Music Camp, has introduced generations of Korean listeners to global rock, pop, and alternative music. Though primarily known as a radio host, he has also released solo albums, including 사랑이야기 (1985) and Fly Again (2025).
