Kevin Quain is a self-taught musician, singer-songwriter, and composer. He began performing at various Toronto venues in 1995, including the Cameron House and the Rex Hotel. Quain released his debut album Hangover Honeymoon in April 1999, followed by Tequila Vampire Matinee in April 2000. He produced recordings for other artists and collaborated with musicians such as Michelle Rumball and Carnival Diablo. In November 2003, his theatrical production Tequila Vampire Matinee, a retelling of the opera Pagliacci, opened at Theatre Passe Muraille in Toronto, earning six Dora Mavor Moore Award nominations and winning for Outstanding New Musical. Subsequent albums include Dog Show Volume 1 (2006), Winter in Babylon (2008), and About November (2018). Quain also released the singles "Rain on the Midway" (2011) and "Dream Weaver" (2017).
