Biography

Andreas Willers (born 5 December 1957, in Rendsburg) was a German jazz musician and composer. He began his career performing in blues bands such as the Charly Schreckschuss Band before studying at the Guitar Institute of Technology (1979–1980) and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. Willers released his debut solo album, Hier & als Auch, in 1981. After moving to Berlin in 1983, he formed the quartet Out to Lunch, which toured internationally. His recording career featured the albums The Private Ear (1989), Blue Collar (1997), and Drowning Migrant (2009). Collaborations included projects with Enrico Rava, Trilok Gurtu, and Paul Bley. Later milestones included the project Derek Plays Eric (2017) and the albums The Goldman Variations (2020) and Search & Rescue (2022). He received the Preis der Deutschen Phonoakademie (1983) and the Jazzpreis des SWF (1987).
