Biography
Born in WhangÄrei, New Zealand, on 26 October 1967 and raised mainly in Caboolture, Australia, Keith Urban became one of the few non-American artists to build a major career in US country music. After releasing his first self-titled album in Australia in 1991, he moved to Nashville, worked as a session guitarist and fronted the Ranch, whose only album arrived in 1997. His US solo breakthrough came with Keith Urban in 1999 and his first number-one country single, "But for the Grace of God". Golden Road followed in 2002 with "Somebody Like You" and the Grammy-winning "Youâll Think of Me", while Be Here in 2004 and Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing in 2006 extended his run of platinum and multi-platinum albums. Defying Gravity in 2009 and Get Closer in 2010 produced further country number ones, including "Sweet Thing", "Only You Can Love Me This Way", "Without You" and "Long Hot Summer". Urban was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2012 and continued with Fuse in 2013, Ripcord in 2016, Graffiti U in 2018 and The Speed of Now Part 1 in 2020. A four-time Grammy winner, he also saw Ripcord certified platinum by the RIAA in 2017, driven by hits including "Blue Ainât Your Color" and "The Fighter" with Carrie Underwood. In 2024, he released High, his first studio album in four years, then launched the High and Alive World Tour in 2025. In 2026, he was named to the Musicians Hall of Fame and released the yacht rock-inspired album Flow State on June 12.
